One Eye on Future and Another on the Present

LasVegasSign Ok, so I am less than a day out from departure to attend Microsoft’s 2009 SharePoint Conference and am really excited about the fact that I am going to see the future version of SharePoint. I am noticing more activity from the conference, from creating community profiles on MySPC, to the advertisements of vendors waiting to be free the NDA restrictions that they have been bound to for the last few months and show what they have been working on, to social events at the conference.

Attending this type of forward-looking event reminds me that the community still has the current version of the product (SharePoint 2007) and that after coming back from SPC09, there probably won’t be a public beta for a couple weeks or so. Documenting what is going to be unveiled and planning my next event is still on my agenda. As a matter of fact, I have registered for the SharePoint Saturday (Raleigh) event, hoping to continue the SharePoint/Collaboration education and networking opportunities.

2010 is going to be busy professionally, I believe, because of the improvement of the economy and the pent-up demand for enterprises to start new projects after the holiday, so for the rest of the year I am going to plan for next year and create opportunities to work in both versions of SharePoint (2007 and 2010).

Remember, I will be blogging and updating Twitter so follow my blog and my twitter account for the next week to see what is new with SharePoint at SPC09.
